Description

Masjid Al-Azim is Melaka’s State Mosque which is located in Melaka Tengah, approximately 3 kilometres from Melaka City. Built between 1984 and 1990, the mosque was officiated by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong at that time, Sultan Azlan Shah, in July 1990.
The mosque’s architectural style is a combination of Javanese and Chinese, with green temple-style and pyramidal roof structures. It features large windows for optimum natural lighting and ventilation. The square base of its main building matches its square triple-tiered roof, inspired by the first mosque built by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) which was based on the four Islamic elements – the foundation or base represents ‘Syariah’ (Islamic Law), the first level represents ‘Tariqat’ (Spiritual Path), the second level represents ‘Haqiqat’ (Truth) and the third level represents ‘Makrifat’ (Spiritual Knowledge). Its 188-feet-tall minaret is in the shape of a pentagon, symbolising the five tenets of Islam.
